Field Tips
- Aim for 50% nuts/seeds (fat + protein) and 50% dried fruit/carbs (quick energy).
- Pre-portion into Ziploc bags for grab-and-go access in an emergency.
- Avoid adding chocolate in hot climates β it melts and ruins the mix.
- Include salty components to encourage fluid intake.
Variations
- βΈHigh-fat version: heavy nuts, coconut flakes, macadamia, no chocolate
- βΈBudget version: peanuts + raisins only (the classic GORP)
- βΈAdd freeze-dried fruit for variety without moisture issues
Storage Notes
Store in airtight bags or Mylar. Nuts go rancid faster than dried fruit β rotate every 12 months. Vacuum sealing extends life significantly.
