4

Seal and label.

Field Tips

  • Aim for 50% nuts/seeds (fat + protein) and 50% dried fruit/carbs (quick energy).
  • Pre-portion into Ziploc bags for grab-and-go access in an emergency.
  • Avoid adding chocolate in hot climates β€” it melts and ruins the mix.
  • Include salty components to encourage fluid intake.

Variations

  • β–ΈHigh-fat version: heavy nuts, coconut flakes, macadamia, no chocolate
  • β–ΈBudget version: peanuts + raisins only (the classic GORP)
  • β–ΈAdd freeze-dried fruit for variety without moisture issues

Storage Notes

Store in airtight bags or Mylar. Nuts go rancid faster than dried fruit β€” rotate every 12 months. Vacuum sealing extends life significantly.
